GH 2/11: Coming out of the closet

Dante's room:  Sonny sits by Dante's hospital bed and fills him in on All My Dark Places.  I can actually buy that Sonny believes he loves Dante now.  What I also believe is that Sonny isn't capable of loving Dante.  What he should be doing is asking Dante to tell him about himself.  What he does, however, is Deke all over the place.  Blah blah, my dad was a gambler, and he left us.  Dante rolls his eyes and says he knows what it's like to grow up without a dad.  And does Sonny say, yes, we share that.  I wish for anything that I'd known about you and had given you what I never had.  I wish to now begin to make up for it.  What's your favorite color?  Nope.  He gets all INDIGNANT and says that Olivia didn't bring home boyfriends, and Adele did.  Blah blah Trevor, who hated him, and then blah blah, Deke the bad cop.  And yes, Deke the bad cop is a monster to hit a woman and beat a child.  I hate Deke for doing that.  There is no excuse.  It doesn't matter that he was nice to Taggart.  Hit a kid in anger even once, and, not to make a joke, you are dead to me.  Sonny explains that Deke hitting him made him go all Dark Place when it's convenient and is why it's okay that 24 hours ago, Sonny shot an unarmed cop, point blank.

Kelly's:  Lucky has happened upon Liz crying in Jason's arms.  (also, yesterdays scene with Liz and Sam still has me reeling with it's awesomosity.  I've grown to love Liz all over again, so full of self loathing does she exist.  Roaming the streets like a self depracting zombie who feeds on punishment.  I almost expect her to go to Jake's and get all Jodie Foster about it with the townies.  She goes to Good Will and aimlessly searches all the shirts, hoping to find one that some hipster Amy had stitched a red A onto.)  Lucky lashes out at Liz all over again.  and while it's true that Liz did one of the 15 worst things a person can do, what's really disturbing is how much Lucky has clearly hated Liz all this time.  Not to be too personal, but I dated a guy who would drink.  and he'd get drunk and get mad, as drunks are wont to do.  But he'd pull up mean things about me that I never knew could possibly bother him.  The way I left cabinet doors open.  The way I didn't use the emergency brake right.  All these tiny, stupid things, and some pretty huge things that are inherent to me as a human being...and he loathed them about me.  Only when he was drunk.  But still, it's ugly to realize a person you love is capable of saying awful things.  Needless to say, this is an ex, and it didn't take more than twice of these angry tirades to be over him.  Never violent, is what I'm saying, just like I can't think of Lucky  hitting liz.  but still I felt as afraid or betrayed as if I'd been hit.   Like I had to get out.  That's how mean Lucky is now.  He's not making stuff up, but he's speaking about Liz as if he never loved her.  To think about her the way he speaks, I don't see how he could ever have loved her.  Jason tries to stop Lucky, but Liz stops him.  She says she knew she hurt him, but didn't know how much until right now.  She's known him to be hurt and angry, but she's never known him to be cruel.  She's not bitchfaced about it. She's oddly loving about how she calls him cruel.  She thanks Jason for his help and leaves.  Lucky is tearful over Liz's words.  jason says Liz is right, and Lucky is not acting like himself.  He says the Lucky he knows is disappearing before his eyes.  Again, while he's angry at Lucky, his tone is more that of a friend who's concerned about someone's well being.

Commercials

Kept Woman Manor:  Liz comes home with the boys, and it's a delightful, whirly twirly mess of little boys trying to take off coats.  We learn that Cam's teacher loved his art project.  aw.  Cute.  Helena, and her gorgeous lavender hair shows up.  Liz shepherds the boys around her like you do when you're trying to get into the storm cellar.

Jason's Penthouse:  jason tells Sam that he ran into Liz, and she's in a bad way.  He says that he also saw Lucky, and he was so cold.  Jason says today is the first time he's seen the toll on all the lies, and he had a part in it.  He says that Lucky bounced back, but the spring broke, and now he's just deflated.  Aw, I do enjoy philosophical, circumspect Jason.  Until he starts murdering people again.

Kelly's  Morgan and Milly drink chocolate shakes and look at her laptop and gossip about the charges against Sonny.  Milly is totally her parent's kid, her understanding of the law is absurd.  They seem to be trying to find loopholes to free Sonny.  Michael shows up and kills them both with a straw and the J2 button from the jukebox.  Or really, he suspects they are up to something.

Dante's room:  Sonny continues his effing sob story.  It's dumb that this is being done in one small scene.  It's vaguely interesting, their parallel lives that led them to completely different sides of the law.  Adele was the sort of woman who didn't know how to get by without a man, even terrible, cruel men.  Olivia was the sort of woman who would put up with the scorn of being the slut that got knocked up as a teen and didn't know who the father was, as long as she could raise her son without a terrible, cruel man to hurt him.  From there, it would be easy to see how one kid would embrace justice, law, doing things the hard way.  While the other one would embrace taking short cuts to get power and get revenge, to protect his loved ones from cruel, terrible men...even if he had to become one.  Dante and Sonny both had role models who were killed by cruel, terrible men.  That murder caused them both to ally themselves with whoever they believed could help them avenge their father figure's death.  Dante chose the cops b/c a mobster killed his friend.  Sonny chose the mob b/c the police couldn't help his friend.

Commercials

kept Woman Manor:  Liz has ushered the boys upstairs and keeps a sofa distance between her and Helena and gives Hells 30 seconds to beat it.  Helena regally says that Liz has done more to help Nik achieve is Cassidentity than anything she's tried to do, and she wants to reward her.  Ethan shows up, and Liz starts shrieking "get out" to Helena.  Ethan corners Helena and then slowly but firmly ushers her out the door with his stare while Helena speaks of Cassadine holdings.

Jason's Penthouse:  Json and Sam talk about getting out of town before the snow comes.  Um, what east coast are they living on, I wonder?  They start talking about a lodge with  no windows and then get all charged up until he scoops her up and carries her upstairs.

Corinthaus:  Sonny comes home to find Diane and Carly.  He's sad that Dante doesn't need him.  I guess he thinks that b/c Dante didn't give him his OJ?

Dante's room:  Loo visits and sees he's distracted.  Dante says Sonny was there telling him the history of his becoming The Biggest Mobster On the Eastern Seaboard.  Yes, he actually uses that term again.  This must be some other eastern seaboard, now that I know it's not snowing in NY in their universe.  Loo says she has a vague notion that Sonny was abused.  Dante says Olivia would never have let a man stay who hit him.  She'd have hit him upside the head with a skillet.  Adele not only put up with it, she chose Deke over Sonny and kicked Sonny out.  Loo asks if this changes things.  Dante says he doesn't feel for Sonny now, but he does empathize with that kid who got dumped on.  Raynor the Idiot shows up at this very moment and demands Dante change his story, or he'll have his badge.  Because the FBI is nothing is totally tone deaf when it comes to the subtle nuance of human emotion.  They totally don't have people who are so much smarter than you and I put together who would be able to glance at Sonny's file and know the man is a master of seduction.  Not just sexually, but of being able to get smart, decent people to lie for him.  That being angry brutes never convinces these people otherwise.  Thank you real, FBI, for not being employed by complete numbskulls.

Commercials

Scrubs:  Oh, and Lisa does a Cindy Brady impersonation and tattles on Robin and Patrick who are doing it in a supply closet.  Everyone is awful in this scene but Piph who is as grossed out by it as I would be.

Dante's room: Dante isn't changing his story, and Raynor says he's off the force.  stoooooopid.

Corinthaus:  Sonny points out that if he's acquitted, then the murder investigation remains open, so they can arrest Michael.  Carly insanely says if he's acquitted, he can help Michael.  What is she talking about?  Sonny, the man who hung another man on a meat hook for being an alcoholic, pours three fingers of Scotch and says he's saying he killed Claud b/c he's not risking Michael.  But really, we all know he will risk Michael, see also: his diving for Kate instead of Michael when a shot was fired.  What he's trying to do is suck up to Dante.  His new favorite child for the past 12 hours.

Commercials

Wyndermere:  Helena comes back to find high tea set up.  She comments what a fabulous spread it is...and yes.  I've had less in fancy London restaurants, but why in tarnation does Nik have all this set out?  He lives alone, right?  What a douche baggy waste of money.

Jake's:  Ethan finds Lucky and says Liz is miserable.  Lucky says that contrary to his recent behavior, he doesn't actually wish anything bad on Liz.  If she's suffering, she can join the club that he's in.  He wishes her no ill will, but he also doesn't give a damn.

Kept Woman Manor:  The front door is open.  Snow blows into the house ( I must have misunderstood Sam and Jason before)  A toy dump truck fills with snow while ominous music plays.

Jason's Penthouse:  banging at the door.  Jason rushes downstairs, pulling on his shoes. It's Milly and Morgan.  They tell Jason and Sam that Michael confessed to them that he really killed Claud,a nd they are worried he'll tell the police.

Cafe Interrogate:  Michael tells Mac that he killed Claudia.

Couldn't kill Claudia...couldn't kill Johnny and now can't kill Dante....Sonny is such a spoil sport.

Well Mad...glad to see you understand the storyline of Liz, seems like it is consufing to some. Posting on SN is tedious with nothing but Liz/Sam hate and comparisons. Sit back and enjoy. There are so few stories that aren't mob related.

I too love that Lizzie is so honestly living her self-destruction. She's never looked so beautiful.
Your compare and contrast of Sonny's and Dante's "tragic back stories" (as Dante said) was brilliant.
